He wants this freedom, and values it because it is something that humans had been deprived of for years.

Prometheus wants the freedom to explore the relics and ideas of the "unmentionable times" which are tabooed by his society.

Prometheus has a great desire for the freedom to develop his own thoughts.Prometheus seeks the freedom to learn about the world and science when he is receiving his primary education.He wants to be enlightened in a society where everything is shadowed by laws and limits.The teachers are petrified of Equality because they do not have the answers to his questions.The teachers know that Equality is smarter than they are, so they try to keep him at their level.Freedom is non existent in this society for people do not have an identity; they are deprived of knowledge, and live on a very strict schedule.As a result of this lack of freedom people become ignorant believing all the propaganda that is fed to them. By freedom, Prometheus means the freedom from the mutual relationship with society and his "brothers." Prometheus doesn't want to carry the burden of society on his back and he doesn't want to depend on the society to live.In addition, after Equality refuses to tell of his whereabouts after going to the tunnel, the oldest judge that they "lash [him] until [he] tell[s]" (64).The judges are scared that Equality will find some hidden fact that the judges do not want to be discovered. In order for a man to have meaning in his life, he must face and overcome many conflicts.Those who do not face these struggles are unable to realize what they are capable of.
