You were a first-place winner of the 2003 Profile in Courage Essay Contest. The overall experience was extremely inspiring and reaffirmed my interest in pursuing a career in public service. I currently serve in the Office of the Secretary of Defense as Country Director for India Policy.
I was also grateful to have the opportunity to meet Caroline Kennedy and was deeply moved after hearing the experiences of the Profile in Courage Award Winners. Is there a particular idea, topic, or issue that is driving your work and thinking at the moment?
The most rewarding part of my experience was flying to Boston and receiving the award from Senator Ted Kennedy, a personal hero of mine who had dedicated his life to public service.

What impact did participating in (and winning) the Profile in Courage Essay Contest have on you?
After winning the Profiles in Courage Essay Contest, I decided to major in Government at Harvard College.Two recipients, John Lewis (in 2001) and William Winter (in 2008), were designated as honorees for Lifetime Achievement.The winner is presented with a sterling silver lantern made by Tiffany's which was designed by Edwin Schlossberg.I also traveled to Delhi twice earlier this year to support negotiations on the Defense Technology and Trade Initiative, a Presidential-level effort aimed at strengthening the bilateral defense relationship.Prior to entering public service, I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College.It was during this time that JFK took the time to craft by Herbert Agar, which praised senator John Quincy Adams for his assertiveness in the face of adversity. He spent the years of 19 researching and writing this autobiography while bedridden due to his surgery.Thus, Kennedy commenced to write profiles of seven other U. senators throughout history who epitomize integrity and courage: Daniel Webster, Thomas Hart Benton, Sam Houston, Edmund G. received considerable praise from critics and audiences.Kennedy Library Foundation, which includes members of the Kennedy family and other prominent Americans.It is generally awarded each year around the time of Kennedy's birthday (May 29) at a ceremony at the Kennedy Library in Boston.The lantern is patterned after the lanterns on USS Constitution, the last sail-powered ship to remain part of the US Navy, which is permanently moored nearby.For working to enact civil rights laws and the National Defense Education Act of 1958 (Hill-Elliott Act), which "made him the target of vicious criticism from reactionaries of both parties" and caused his ouster from Congress in 1964. A well known woman’s and human rights advocate, activist and a social worker within national and international forums, who served as Minister of Women's Affairs of Afghanistan from December 2001 to 2003.
